Love Ties Us All Together

Today, I heard a message that resonated deeply with me. A message about shedding the old and putting on the new.
Many of us, including me, allow our past to define who we are today. Some people use their past for good, but many of us hold onto what we did in the past and can't let it go. Whether it is something we said, something someone else said or did to us, a destructive habit, or a sinful desire...the list goes on and on. Sometimes, we were even born into a life that wasn't in our control.
It isn't until we fully engage with and recognize our new life that our past stops defining us. I found myself asking today, "Is my identity wrapped up in my brokenness (or in worldly desires)?" Is my life being led by an old muscle memory, an old habit that has become part of me? Is there something from my past still shaping my identity (or yours)?
Instead of allowing our lives to be shaped by the old - the old ways of thinking, behaving, regretting, and hurting, we can begin to shape our lives around LOVE.
When we focus our days on how to love better, rather than on the division in our world, the chaos around us, and in the news, we can shed the old and step into a new life.
The scripture that was referenced in the message today was from Colossians:
Clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Let forgiveness, peace, and worship flow from your life.
Imagine a world where love ties everything together. Where compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, peace, and worship are not just words, but ways of life. These words define LOVE to me.
Allow LOVE to clothe you today.
Allow LOVE - not hate, not division, not anger to bind us together.
Allow LOVE to tie us all together.
