This morning, a thought-provoking question surfaced during our class, a journey my husband and I are taking together:
"Are you as passionate for Jesus as when you first came to Christ?"
This question extends beyond spiritual realms – it resonates with life's various facets: career, relationships, health, or the broader canvas of existence. A question that urges introspection and stirs the soul.
As I pondered, my heart affirmed my devotion. Today, my love for Jesus Christ burns brighter than ever. Yet, it's a flame with a different hue. It's ignited not in grand gestures but in the quiet moments of solitude with Him. Writing, listening, and delving into scripture have become my companions, each word resonating with my soul.
There were times in the past when I opened the Bible only to find its words elusive and incomprehensible. As they say, "The teacher appears when the student is ready." I guess I just wasn't ready then. It's been a gradual process, starting with fundamental devotional books that paved the way for a deeper understanding. Now, I find myself writing letters to God, and remarkably, He writes back. This revelation unfolded during the Deep Work Retreat, an experience shared with ten incredible women. I once envied those who claimed to "hear from God," unsure if I ever did. Looking back, I realize He was always there, patiently waiting. I just needed to be still, stop talking (shut up!), and listen.
In today's class, a quote resurfaced, embedding itself in my heart:
"Spiritual growth thrives in solitude; character blossoms in community."
The solitude at the retreat allowed God to speak, nurturing my spiritual growth. Conversations with my peers then transformed this growth into a deeper character centered around our savior, Jesus Christ.
Returning to the initial question – "Are you as passionate for Jesus as when you first came to Christ?" My answer is a resounding YES and more! I've purposefully pruned my life, letting go of things, people, and places that no longer align with who I am and who Jesus envisions me to be. Through this intentional process, I wake up with an insatiable hunger for Jesus, a passion to make a difference in the lives around me. For those who seek change in this world, my church's purpose statement resonates:
Love Jesus.
Grow with Others.
Serve the World.
This purpose encapsulates my journey, too. Let's love, grow, and serve together. Who is with me?
