Proximity = Growth

Sometimes I sit back and wonder why I spend the time and money to be in groups like Chad Willardson’s Elevated program or John Maxwell’s Masterclass. These events take time, energy, and money. But are they worth it?
After this week’s Mastermind with the Elevated group, I answered that question for myself: YES, they are worth it.

When you put yourself around people who aren’t “just like you”—people from different walks of life, jobs, locations, and goals—you find yourself growing in ways you never thought possible.
This week, during our breakout groups, we were challenged with a few questions and placed with people outside of our usual “tribe.” I think that’s good because it pushes us to get to know others and expand our comfort zones.

God always puts us exactly where He wants us. I’m in a different season of life than many others in the group who manage, run, and grow their businesses. And yet, God placed me next to a beautiful woman who retired a year ago and is in a season of not knowing her purpose. That moment came at the same time I’ve committed the next six months of my life to “being still.”
For those of you who know me, being still is NOT my strength. I am constantly innovating, growing, moving, and finding the next thing to do to help others or grow a business.
I found myself giving her ideas for what she could do during the 12 weeks of downtime after her upcoming foot surgery. Ha! I literally realized I was talking to her—but also to myself.
So, why do I join these Masterminds and Masterclasses? To put myself around people who will challenge me, hold me accountable, and TEACH me—even when the lesson comes through my own words spoken to someone else.
I am grateful for these life-changing, mind-altering opportunities for growth. By placing myself in the proximity of others who have NO agenda other than to encourage, provide insight, or even give you a hug when you need one, I grow.
Proximity = Growth.
If you’re not putting yourself around new and inspiring people, getting out of your comfort zone, and being authentic with others, try it. It WILL change your world.
A special thank you to Chad Willardson and John Maxwell for being my mentors and friends. You have both changed my world for the better. I love you both.
