Who would have thought that my body would affect my mind so much. The amount of clarity that I have been given since paying attention to my body and exercising the past 4+ years has made such a difference.
I have been doing at least 30 minutes of exercise each morning for almost five years now, and although there has been a physical change, the mental change has been remarkable. It all started with a podcast by Rick Warren that reminded me that we are supposed to take care of our temples, so that we can serve God, help others and be our best selves each and every day.
As I read this devotion today, it was yet another reminder how I am to treat my temple. I need to nourish it CORRECTLY (real food), be accountable, and exercise. Yes, walking is enough! Just walk, walk, walk. Who would have thought that I would be averaging over 15,000 steps a day, when for over 20 years of my life, I probably struggled to get 5,000 a day! Just to think, I am walking about 6.5 miles a day - over 42 miles a week, almost 170 miles a month. What???
The change is so much more than physical. It is mental. As the devotion says:
"Because your body affects your behavior. Your muscles affect your moods and your motivation. If your body feels weak, YOU feel weak."
Strengthen your body...it will strengthen your mind. Then, go out and do good deeds for others...serve others. Use your whole body. You will love the results.
